Who We Are?

 

The Ontario Opticians Association (OOA) was founded in 1946 and celebrated it's 60th anniversary in 2006

The OOA is comprised of voluntary executive directors from the profession and student representatives from both Seneca and Georgian College's Opticianry Programs. Directors are assigned various portfolios and attend monthly meetings and annual general meetings. Officer positions are President, Vice-President and Finance Director. Portfolios include member benefits, membership promotion, public relations, vision care, student education and continuing education.

The day to day activities of the Association are carried out by a full-time Chief Administrator Officer, Karin Sheppard whose background includes public relations, fund-raising and non-profit association management experience.

 

What We Do?

 

The non-profit Association's mandate is to enhance, promote and protect the profession of opticianry. To play a vital part in the eyecare industry in Ontario. We are supported by the membership fees of over 1200 licensed opticians, students and interns and industry donations

We host a very popular conference and trade show every year, Inside Optics, bringing together optical industry suppliers, professional speakers and over 500 delegates over a weekend.

Our large distance module loan library consists of 9 accredited eye care related topics in DVD, videotape and booklet format.

Membership in the OOA includes an automatic membership in the Opticians Association of Canada at no extra charge.  Membership is just $160.00, anniversary term, and entitles opticians to over 30 benefits offered by both Associations.
