At OOA 's "Inside Optics 2008" Conference and Trade Show,
Dr. Kuldip Kular, MPP, Parliamentary Assistant to Minister of Health and
Long Term Care, brings greetings from Queen's Park to attending Opticians.

Special Announcement
Recent questions have arisen about the status of optician-performed refracting in Ontario based on a letter that was sent from the Deputy Minister of Health to the College of Opticians of Ontario (COO). The Ontario Opticians Association (OOA) has been in touch with the College of Opticians of Ontario requesting comment on its position. We are told that the COO is taking the Deputy Minister’s advice under consideration and that we will be notified once a determination of action has been reached.
The OOA continues to lobby the Ministry of Health and all members of the legislature for the right to refract. We encourage the new Minister of Health to consider the interests of consumers in Ontario and to revisit the issue of the Opticians’ scope of practice.
The Ontario Opticians Association will continue to offer excellent education opportunities for Ontario Opticians including the NAIT/OAC Advanced Practice 2 Sight Testing program as well as Continuing Education lectures and workshops at our Inside Optics 2008 conference on Sunday Oct. 5,2008.
