OOA Statement on Optometrists' Pause on Job Action

November 22nd, 2021

As of tomorrow, November 23rd, the Ontario Association of Optometrists will be placing their official job action campaign on pause. In an official statement from the OAO, they have stated that they will be doing the following:

1. Pausing OAO’s official job action campaign effective Tuesday, November 23;

2. Effective immediately, entering confidential, formal negotiations with a media blackout; and,

3. Working towards reaching an agreement with the Ontario government by January 31, 2022.

The OAO has also stated: "We will not be able to provide any updates while negotiations are active; silence means that the process is ongoing." Although the OAO is working towards an agreement, the situation has not been fully rectified. Hopefully the OAO and the Ontario Government are able to come to a permanent resolution quickly for the sake of all Ontarians.

As Ontario Opticians take pride in being the Frontline of Vision Care, we would like to see this negotiation settled so that we can return to providing the level of care that the people of Ontario deserve. Ontario Opticians Association
